The Surface Design Show, London
As a creative I always look for an inspiration. I'm fascinated by art, architecture, design and technology, and in my opinion London is one of the best places where one could explore it all.
That's the advantage of living in a big city - it gets all best exhibitions and events. The Surface Design Show is one of them- a three day event designed for an interior designers and architects, where manufacturers showcase their products and latest technologies. But for me, the best part of the events was educational. During the three days, one could've attended series of talks by lighting designers, Pecha Kucha format was set for architects and designers, where people presented projects they've worked on and stories behind them- it was hugely inspirational.
Free to enter and tonne to learn! I was stunned by the fact how many companies focused on using and re-interpreting the recycling materials, like glass bottles- it creates stunning surfaces. Juxtaposition of colours, materials, shapes and forms, patterns, silhouettes- oh so inspiring! It helps me to think outside of the box and realize the potential of everyday objects - turning into art or even building materials. Everyday we engage with many kinds of surfaces and texture without noticing. Undoubtedly that the material, form/texture and colour impacts our well-being, since we live surrounded by it! This show reminded me to appreciate the qualities of surfaces a lot more .
