10 Ideas To Stay Creative During The Coronavirus Lockdown
There are still a few weeks ahead of the lockdown for most of us, so why not use this time creatively? I know its hard for some to stay creative in this weird, uncertain time of the pandemic. I wrote this note to remind myself of ways to continue to pursue creativity even when I don’t feel like it. I hope this reminder will inspire you to do something creative while being stuck at home.
1. BE A STUDENT
Learn a new skill by dedicating a portion of your day to learning is the key to stay creative and be inspired, but even more, it creates the potential of being able to think differently, outside the box.
2. SMELL, TOUCH, TASTE, HEAR
Evoke your senses: does your coffee taste bitter or too sweet? Notice that beautiful light in your room - appreciate its beauty. Open windows and smell the air, what does it smell of? Pause and listen - what can you hear?
Embrace the sensations to the fullest.
Now is the best time to go for a long walk around your neighbourhood to explore the local paths, nearby parks and lovely little corners which you may have never noticed before. This time of the year trees are in bloom, so charge your phone or pick up the camera and snap the beauty around you. Appreciate what you have.
4. REVIVE YOUR HOBBY
Remember what you used to love doing as a kid? Not everyone during this time has the energy to learn new skills, but there is something comforting in rediscovering the old ones. No matter what your hobby was, give yourself permission to spend some time doing it and you’ll feel the magic! Ideas will start coming to you. Whatever it is - making the magician tricks, drawing or cooking, even solving the sudoku - add it to your routine if not daily then at least weekly.
Make a simple DIY card and send a warm hello to your family & friends. It will not only keep you busy creatively but also handmade cards make for a beautiful surprise to receive in the letterbox, you will make their day and put the smile on a face.
6. CREATIVE NETWORK
Social media is the best place to surround yourself with the like-minded, open, innovative and artistic individuals. Follow their creative process, engage in comments and be supportive. You will immediately feel the effect on yourself.
7. DAYDREAM
It is essential for creative thinking, but a healthy balance must be maintained. Realistic daydreaming can help with the vision of where you’re heading to. It motivates to be creative in your decision-making process and good mental practice before one invest real time and effort.
8. EXERCISE
In small increments between the tasks. Physical activity is essential for keeping the creative juices flowing. Put on your favourite music and dance. Or do some stretching for 10 minutes, or go for a walk around your block. Make it simple and enjoyable.
9. LISTEN TO THE BIRD SINGING
Literally just that. Make a cup of tea and open the window (or take a thermal flask and walk in the park) sit down for 10 minutes with your eyes closed and just listen to the bird’s singing.
Where is that book you bought last year but never had the time to read it? If there is anything good about this lockdown than it is the opportunity to get immersed in reading.
