Conic Hill - Short & Easy Hike in Loch Lomond Trossachs Park

Conic Hill was our first hike since moved to Scotland. At the time we didn't have a car so that we travelled by bus from Balloch. It continues to be my favourite hiking route due to its convenience in every aspect - easy to get there and it’s a short, easy hike. A perfect little outdoor adventure, that's accessible to all.

THE HIKE

Conic Hill is located on the South of the Loch Lomond's eastern shore, it’s a small hill (358m) which makes for a great active day out. The path to Conic Hill is part of the famous West Highland Way and offers a magnificent view. The hike is short and easy - all you need is a few hours, comfy shoes and a bottle of water (the midge repellent will be handy to have too). The walk starts at the back of the car park near the info centre (marked on the map). The overall distance is about 4km/2.5miles. First, it will take you through the forestry bit (that's where the midge repellent will come in handy). Then expect to climb a few steps. Trust me, your efforts will be awarded - the magnificent view opens up halfway through the hike.

WHERE TO EAT

Oak Tree Tavern is the place to go when in Balmaha (marked on the map). Treat yourself with the locally roasted artisan coffee or get a fresh pint and the delicious fish and chips. That will be a perfect way to end a small adventure in Loch Lomond.

HOW TO GET HERE

If travelling by public transport then the most direct route will be travelling to Balloch by train (45 minutes from Glasgow) and then taking the bus 309 to Balmaha (20 min journey). Balmaha is the final stop of the bus, the Conic Hill sits right at the top of the village. Make sure you have cash (small change) on you when boarding the bus.
